Lochness Monster's Room

My wild child. This three year old give zero you-know-what.

I’m not a huge fan of color … I always joke that I’m allergic to it (you can read more about that here). I want to be brave and bold, I really do. But when push comes to shove, I’m choosing gray. Because Loch is so fun and different (and random and strange) I figured if I was going to play around with color- his room would be the perfect place. EEK.

In this new house (the third home we’ve owned) we decided that we are going to pull the trigger on projects. In our last two homes, we did a lot ourselves, or we opted to wait and wait and never ended up starting a project due to time, budget, whatever.

No this time my friends. We are getting. things. done. I knew I wanted to tackle the boys bedrooms first so they could feel special and excited in their new space. We may not have couches, but Jax has a baller crash pad LOL

I start every roon with a design board. Mostly so I can collect my thoughts and stay on track while hunting things down on the interwebs.

If I wasn’t so budget- conscious, I would have splurged for the exact wallpaper … but let’s face it … he’s five. I told him it was only a picture of wallpaper, and not something we could actually buy (I lied, sue me). But we (me) designed the room with that wallpaper as inspiration.

*note: find a local wallpaper store - they can likely get better prices for you. We did this paper through allan funks and it was $24.99/double roll (and the home depot price that is linked is higgghhh)

Wallpaper Lesson: unless you are a superhero whos super power is patience… hire a professional wallpaper installer. David and I have wallpapered once in our life … and it was one too many. *note: our installer charge $25/roll. Not too shabby right? Keep in mind, most places sell “a roll” as a DOUBLE ROLL. I physically purchased 9 rolls of this paper, but it was in fact EIGHTEEN rolls in the eyes of an installer (I died inside a little when I realized this). To me, it was still well worth it - he installed in about 1/2 day … cleaned up his mess, and its perfect. You cannot see one single seam (and that would have never happened if it were up to David and me).

Wallpaper This wasn’t my initial wallpaper choice (this was) but once I saw this A Street Design, I loved it. It was fun, but also had a disheveled vibe …just like Loch. We opted for the blue! *note: find a local wallpaper store - they can likely get better prices for you. Bed: I was nervous about getting a canopy bed for a three year old and having the boys literally swinging from the rafters. But I put the fear of God in them, and they’ve yet to touch it :). I love it! Note, I have a box spring AND matress on this bed. I’m not sure it calls for it, but having the matress-only, was too low and non-impressive. So we added the boxspring (I have velcro connecting the matress to the boxsrping and velcro from the boxspring to the frame to prevent a ton of movement).

Bedding: Target has a newish label, OpalHouse. It’s mid-century-modern-ish and I LOVE IT. This is a twin/twin XL and I love the length of it!

Dresser: I wanted something geometric, as this room is much more modern compared to Jackson’s Room. I also knew I wanted something long and not tall.

Car Prints: If you don’t follow @lesleemitchell on instagram, you need to. I had been drooling over her car series for months. I was dead.set. on purchasing her prints for Loch’s room … until I saw the price tag. an 8x10 is reasonable … but the bigger the print, the more outrageous. So off to etsy I went (and when I saw “I” I mean David). He found perfect imintations for a fraction of the price. I do like Leslee’s prints better, but I also like my bank account - so the three-year-old got the budget option :)

Frames: amazon for the win! I love the thin gold frame. A perfect compliment to his canopy

Shelf: Target does it again. We used these in our previous playroom (and now two reside in my office … I’ll blog about that space soon!)

Book Stands

Books: If you remember, Loch’s third birthday theme was Dragon’s Love Tacos. The boys die over these books (and the colors work well in the room, so I decided to leave them out!)
